About Susan's Artwork

Susan Schaefer is a professional artist, instructor, publisher and curator.

Originally from the Canadian prairies, she now resides in on beautiful Vancouver Island, BC.
Susan works mainly with acrylic paints. Although she is primarily self-taught, she continues to grow as an artist by organizing and attending workshops with other artists she admires. Some Canadian artists she considers her mentors are Brian Buckrell, Mark Hobson, Janice Robertson, and David Langevin. Susan is also an art instructor, sharing her passion for art with her students.

"I have been working with acrylic paints for the past 24 years," Susan says. "I am a prolific painter and appreciate how quickly acrylic paint dries, allowing me to stay focused. I can work on one section of a painting, and while it is drying, I can move on to another part. I also like the easy cleanup using soap and water, making them versatile for travel."

Susan's work is often described as "colourful and bright." She gets her painting ideas from real-life adventures. Since she is an avid photographer, there are thousands of images to choose from, often making it difficult to decide which painting to start next.
